  • IDAPEL Essential Workshop

    IDAPEL Essential workshop (Entraînement essentielle dans l'application des épreuves) is offered in French. It is intended to provide French immersion teachers and school districts with:

    • Empirical and conceptual foundations of IDAPEL
    • Overview of measures and directions on the Administration and Scoring of IDAPEL measures
    • Use of early literacy IDAPEL–DIBELS® tools for the assessment of developmental biliteracy skills among elementary bilingual/biliterate student populations

Chantal Dufour-Martel

Chantal Dufour-Martel, Ph.D.

Dr. Dufour-Martel is a native of Canada and is functionally fluent in both French and English. She has 20 years public school teaching experience teaching in partial and/or full immersion programs in both Canada and the United States, and as an early reading interventionist for grades K-5. Dr. Dufour-Martel holds a doctoral degree in Special Education from the University of Oregon. In addition to holding current reading, ESOL and administrative endorsements and licenses, she is the principal author and co-designer of the French literacy measures IDAPEL (Indicateurs dynamiques d’habiletés précoces en lecture) and Director of IDAPEL Research with Dynamic Measurement Group. She directs research in Canada and the United States with both immersion and Francophone student populations.

In addition to developing standardized tests for the assessment of reading and oral language skills in French, her primary research focus is understanding factors predicting literacy development among bilingual children and youth to inform practices for students with specific learning impairments. She is the author of Cerf-volant, a French language reading intervention targeted for at-risk students. Dr. Dufour-Martel has also served as adjunct professor for the ESOL endorsement at the University of Oregon.
