Can't make it to a DIBELS® Institute? We provide professional development and onsite collaborative support to educational organizations on research-based curricula, programs, and educational models that support student success.

DIBELS Training InstituteDMG, founded by DIBELS authors Roland H. Good, III, and Ruth Kaminski, provides the most respected, comprehensive, and up-to-date DIBELS training available. In addition, a critical aspect of our training is providing ongoing collaborative support through customized trainings. We will work with you and your staff as well as your students. Professional Development Workshops offered by DMG

Educational organizations may choose individual workshops or work with one of our advisors to design a professional development package to meet your organization's needs. Available workshops include:

  • Essential DIBELS Workshop

    The Essential DIBELS Workshop provides educators with:

    • An in-depth understanding of the conceptual foundations of DIBELS and linkage to key basic early literacy skills
    • Comprehensive training and practice in administration and scoring of all DIBELS measures
    • An explanation of how to use DIBELS data for educational decision making within an Outcomes-Driven Model

  • Utilizing and Interpreting DIBELS Data

    The Phase 2 Workshop covers the following topics:

    • Review of the foundations of DIBELS
    • How to interpret individual and group DIBELS scores
    • Effectively using DIBELS data to identify students in need of additional support to become readers
    • DIBELS progress monitoring as a way to evaluate intervention effectiveness and maintain student success
    • Planning instructional groups and instructional goals using DIBELS data

  • DIBELS Connect: Connecting DIBELS with Effective Reading Instruction

    The Phase 3 Workshop focuses on:

    • The content of effective reading instruction including content in phonological awareness, alphabetic principle, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension
    • The processes of effective reading instruction
    • Connecting what you learn from DIBELS data with effective reading instruction

  • DIBELS for Administrators

    This workshop helps school and district administrators:

    • Increase student outcomes through efficient assessment
    • Understand conceptual and empirical foundations of DIBELS
    • Use and interpret DIBELS data for increasing the effectiveness of core, supplemental, and intensive reading programs
    • Support both first-year and long term DIBELS implementation

Kathleen Petersen

Kathleen Petersen, Ph.D., Director of Professional Development

Kathleen M. Petersen, Ph.D., is the Director of Professional Development with Dynamic Measurement Group, a licensed psychologist, and nationally certified school psychologist. She obtained her doctorate in school psychology from the University of Oregon in 1999 with a research emphasis in early reading assessment and instruction. Dr. Petersen worked as a school psychologist in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area for six years. Additionally, she has ten years experience providing professional development workshops on DIBELS and scientifically-based reading programs and leadership support to school educators and administrators throughout the country.

Alisa Dorman

Alisa Dorman, Professional Development Specialist

Alisa Dorman's experience as an educator ranges from teaching in elementary and intermediate schools to directing and managing state and federal programs for the Oklahoma State Department of Education. She has 6½ years experience in the classroom and 8½ years of experience in administration and management. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Masters' Degrees in School Counseling and Reading. She holds a current teaching certificate for the following areas: Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary School Counseling, Reading Specialist, Elementary School Principal, and Superintendent.
